Where are we going?

Every summer my husband Mike and I take a trip and I blog about it. This summer we're exploring new ground in Northern California (and a little bit or Oregon) and old ground in Northern Wisconsin.
PROPOSED NORCAL ROAD  TRIP ROUTE

During the first week of July we'll be driving up to Redwood National Park, Crater Lake National Park, and Lake Tahoe. I've attached a snapshot of a route we might take. The little pink pins indicate hot spring spots we are considering stopping by. Neither of us have any experience with hot springs (besides a midnight swim in a hot spring fed swimming pool in a Death Valley hotel) so we are keen to try this quintessential NorCal experience. I say "consider" because during my internet research of these hot springs, most of them seem like clothing optional hippie haunts. Call me an old-fashioned Midwesterner, but the idea of hanging out with a bunch of strangers sans suits doesn't sound too appealing to me.

Our road trip accommodations will be a combination of camping and rustic motels. We'll decide where to stay while we're on the road. We like to be spontaneous on our road trips because we never know what the situation is going to be like. Weather might be terrible, a campground might be full, or it might be too dark to pitch a tent. That's when it's good to have the option of a roof over your head. We are pretty certain we'll stay in a hotel if night comes and we find ourselves in the Lake Tahoe area because the bears are pretty bad there this year.

In the latter part of July we'll be flying home to Wisconsin. Our family has rented a cabin in Presque Isle for about week. The cabin is on a lake, so I expect I'll be doing a lot of swimming and lazing about on a pontoon boat.

I am looking forward to getting out of San Francisco for awhile and seeing some big trees, glacial lakes, and family. Stay tuned!
